Ohm sets school record with 37 points in season-opening win over FSU, 74-58

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior women's basketball guard Lulu Ohm (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) made history in the first game under new head coach Julie Prichett, setting the Judges' single-game scoring record with 37 points as they defeated Framingham State University, 74-58, in the opening game of the Brandeis Invitational presented by the Park Lodge Hotel Group.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 1-0.
  • Framingham State, 0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ohm was the big story for the Judges as she set a new school record with 37 points, eclipsing the record set of 36 points set by Jessica Chapin '10, Brandeis's current director of athletics, on  February 7, 2010, at Carnegie Mellon.
  • Ohm hit 14-of-19 from the floor, including 7-of-8 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the field. Her 3-pointer with 2:47 left in the fourth quarter not only set the scoring mark, it also tied Chapin and Camila Casnueva '20's single-game record for trifectas.
  • Ohm had 20 points in the first half, when she was nearly perfect from the field, scoring 23 points on 9-of-10 overall and 5-of-5 from deep. She was 5-of-9 overall and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc with a pair of free throws in the second half.
  • Ohm and two other players combined for all but two of the Judges' 74 points.
  • First-year Jessica Maina (Bradford, Mass./Brooks School) scored 19 points in her collegiate debut, grabbing seven rebounds in the process. Maina hit 7-of-17 overall and 5-of-12 from beyond the arc.
  • Junior forward Katherine Vaughan (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, a game-high. It was the second double-double of her career.
  • Vaughan, who set Brandeis's single-season record for blocked shots last season, had four blocks against the Rams.
  • Ohm and first-year Ava Skladanowski (Apex, N.C./Middle Creek) tied for team-high honors with three assists.
  • Framingham State also had three players score in double digits. Katherine Haselton led the way with a double-double of her own, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She also had five assists to lead all players.
  • Faith Greene added 13 points and Abigail Martin had 11. Greene just missed the game's third double-double with nine rebounds.
  • The game featured two ties and five lead changes. Brandeis led, 14-11, after one quarter, with Ohm and Maina each scoring seven points.
  • Brandeis scored the first four points of the second before FSU rattled off a 12-2 run, taking a 23-21 lead on Haselton's traditional three-point play at the 4:32 mark.
  • Ohm hit a 3-pointer on reclaim the lead, and after the Rams' Jacqueline Schels' put-back gave FSU a 25-24 edge, she dialed long distance again to give the hosts the lead for good.
  • Brandeis closed the second period on a 13-2 run to take a 37-27 lead into the half and they never looked back, leading by as many as 17 points in the second before the 16-point final margin.
