WALTHAM, Mass. The Brandeis swimming and diving teams had a hometown rivalry meet on the road tonight, taking on Bentley University, with the host Falcons winning both. The score for the men was 164-94 in favor of the home team, while the score for the women was Bentley 180, Brandeis 74.
On the women's side, senior captain
Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla./Miami Beach Senior) swept three freestyle events winning the 100, 200, and 500 yards. She won the 100 yard freestyle in 25.72 seconds, the 200 freestyle in 1:58.08, and the 500 freestyle in 5:25.54. Senior
Anastasia Bekou (Limassol, Cyprus/Laniteio Lyceum) came close in the 100-yard backstroke, missing first place by one-tenth of a second behind Bentley's Taylor White. Bekou also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke event with a time of 2:19.75.
On the men's side, the top performers of the night were first-year
Peter Mou (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brimmer and May School) along with three juniors:
Sam Bundy (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell),
Benjamin Lee (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional), and
Eric Xiao (College Station, Texas/AM Consolidated). Mou placed first in all of his individual events, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.33 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 48.14 seconds. Bundy took first in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:02. Lee took part in the 200 and 500 freestyle races. After coming in second at less than one second behind first place with a time of 1:47.14 in the 200, he bounced back and took first in the 500 with 5:11.41 on the clock. Xiao finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 53.66 seconds.
