WALTHAM, Mass. The Brandeis swimming and diving teams took on a local rivalry, Tufts University at the Lindsey pool tonight. After a tough battle, Tufts University came out on top with both men's and women's events. The women's score was 221-62, the men's was 230-54.
On the women's side, senior captain
Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla./Miami Beach Senior) won three of her individual events. She placed first in the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:58.63. Her second freestyle event, the 100, placed first with her finish of 54.23 seconds and was the only Judge among the top five swimmers. Gonzalez also competed in the 50-yard butterfly event and won in 26.82 seconds. Senior
Anastasia Bekou (Limassol, Cyprus/Laniteio Lyceum) came close in the 100-yard backstroke with a final time of 1:01.87. Junior
Rebecca Kaplan (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary School) competed in the 100-yard breaststroke event placing 2nd with fellow junior
Audrey Teo (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) in third place. Kaplen had a time of 1:13.84 with Teo following with less than two-tenths of a second behind at 1:14.10.
On the men's side, the top performers of the night were the junior class.
Eric Xiao (College Station, Texas/AM Consolidated) placed second in his 50-yard freestyle event finishing with a time of 22.49 seconds and placed third in his 50-yard butterfly event in 23.71 seconds. Fellow junior
Sam Bundy (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) swam the 1000-yard freestyle and was able to take second place with a last-minute spur of energy finishing with a time of 10:23.98. Juniors Xiao,
Solomon Skelton Harris (Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong),
Ben Lee (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional), and first-year
Peter Mou (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brimmer and May School) finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in third place with a mark of 1:28.41.
The Judges are back in action for the Gompei Invitation in Worcester, Mass. on Friday, Dec. 6.
