NO. DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's basketball team led host UMass Dartmouth, 60-59, after three periods, but the Corsairs scored the first 11 points of the fourth to hand the Judges an 81-71 defeat in North Dartmouth, Mass., today.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a game that featured two ties and 11 lead changes, it was a big run at the start of the fourth quarter that made the difference.
- Both team came out strong, with UMD outscoring Brandeis, 26-21, as the hosts shot 61% from the field (11-18), even as the Judges connected on 53% (8-15).
- Brandeis responded with tight defense in the second period, outscoring the hosts 19-11. Brandeis shot 42% (8-19) and forced UMass Dartmouth into 10 turnovers that became 11 of their 19 points.
- Senior Lulu Ohm (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) led the way with 10 points in the first half, while first-year Jessica Maina (Bedford, Mass./Brooks School) scored nine.
- In the third period, the lead went back and forth six times. Ohm added nine more points to her total in the third, but it was an offensive rebound by first-year Saviah Shabazz (Plano, Texas/Plano West) that led to a second-chance 3-pointer by Maina that gave the Judges their one-point lead into the final 10 minutes.
- After Brandeis missed on its opening possession of the fourth quarter, UMD's Amaris Mills scored to give the hosts the lead for good.
- They would hold Brandeis scoreless for the first 6:07 of the fourth, scoring 11-straight points as the Judges went cold, missing their first 11 attempts.
- Maina finally got Brandeis on the board with a 3-pointer to cut their deficit to 70-63, but the Corsairs hit their free throws while holding the Judges to just 3-of-19 overall for the period to take the 10-point win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ohm led the Judges in scoring with 21 points on 9-of-20 from the field, 1-of-6 from downtown and 2-of-2 from the line. She scored 20 or more points for the fourth time in six games this season.
- Maina added 18 points and sophomore Claire Candela (Maynard, Mass./Milton Academy) had a career-high 10.
- Senior Brooke Reed (Chantilly, Va./Westfield) led all players with 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass. It was her third-straight game with 10 or more boards.
- Senior Mollie Obar (No. Yarmouth, Mass./Greely) and junior Abby Kennedy (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) each had two assists.
- UMass Dartmouth had a balanced attack with five players scoring in double figures and two more with eight points.
- Kaylin Zalewski led all players with 23 points. Mills and Jane McCauley had 11 points each, while Carly Whiteside and Melanie DeMeo had 10 apiece. Whiteside also had three blocked shots.
- Mills led the Corsairs with nine rebounds and Whiteside added eight.
- One big difference in the game came from the free-throw line, where UMD outscored Brandeis, 20-7.
