Ross makes 11 saves in women's 1-0 loss to #23 Emory

WALTHAM, Mass. – Despite a career-high 11 saves from graduate student Rachel Ross (Portchester, N.Y./Somers), the Brandeis University women's soccer team dropped their fourth one-goal decision of the season against a nationally-ranked opponent tonight as the Judges fell to #23 Emory, 1-0, on Gordon Field in a University Athletic Association contest.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 9-5, 0-4 UAA.
  • Emory, 10-3-1, 2-2 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandeis got off to a quick start, registering three shots in the first five minutes, but Emory keeper Sophia Garcia made a pair of saves.
  • The Eagles found their way into the game in the 10th minute with their first shot off the foot of Kaitlyn Nimmer, but Ross was up to the task.
  • The visitors put on a flurry of shots over the next 10 minutes, eventually finding the back of the net in the 19th minute. Ross made a save on a point-blank shot by Katie Hungness, but the rebound found its way back to Mikayla Camp. Camp fired back at the goal, and her shot deflected at least once before getting past Ross for the only goal of the game.
  • The Judges regained some momentum late in the half, but both of their shots were off-target.
  • Brandeis had a 7-5 shooting advantage on the Eagles in the second half, but were unable to solve Garcia.
  • Their best opportunity came on a free kick from about 25 yards out from senior Dominique Paglia (Westford, Mass./Westford) in the 85th minute that was ticketed inside the left post, but Garcia made a diving stop, her best of the game.
  • Emory finished with a 17-12 shooting advantage for the game and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Ross kept Brandeis in the game with a career-high 11 saves, eight coming in the first half.
  • Garcia made six stops, four in the second half, to earn the clean sheet.
UP NEXT
  • Brandeis will play host to the University of Rochester on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. in search of their first UAA win.
