Kipperman scores for #20 women, but Chicago prevails, 4-1

CHICAGO, Ill. – The 20th-ranked Brandeis University women's soccer team saw host Chicago pull away in the second half, scoring three times to take a 4-1 University Athletic Association decision on Stagg Field.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 9-4, 0-3 UAA.
  • Chicago, 9-4, 1-2 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges broke the ice in the 13th minute when junior Sam Kipperman (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) scored her second goal of the season on an assist from senior back Rachel Watler (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./West Ranch).
  • The assist was Watler's eighth of the season to take the UAA lead. Her eight helpers are the most in a season by a Brandeis player since Juliette Carreiro '21/M'22 had eight in 2021.
  • Chicago answered just 11 seconds later, when Indira Naylor netted her ninth goal of the season off an assist by Sarah Ginsburg.
  • The teams went to the half tied at 1-1 despite Chicago outshooting Brandeis, 8-4.
  • The Maroons controlled the second half, outshooting the Judges, 14-5, and scoring three times.
  • Layne Kohler scored the game-winner in the 59th minute off a corner kick.
  • Kaitlyn Gomez scored in the 66th minute to give the hosts an insurance goal, and Naylor scored in the 82nd minute to put the nail in the Judges' coffin.
  • Brandeis grad student Rachel Ross (Spencerport, N.Y./Somers) made eight saves in the losing effort for the Judges. Sophia Sasaki had three stops for the win.
  • The Maroons finished with a 22-9 shooting advantage and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges return home for three of their last four games, starting on Friday, October 25th at 5 p.m. against Emory.
