BUSDT sweeps Clark to close out dual-meet slat

WORCESTER, Mass. – After their final regular-season meet of the 2023-24 campaign, the Brandeis University swimming and diving teams will take some positive momentum into the UAA Championships after having swept Clark University in Worcester. The women were 159-116 winner, while the men claimed a 164-81 triumph.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: Women, 4-8. Men, 3-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges won 26 of the 31 events on the day.
  • Sophomore Becca Kaplan (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary School) was a triple winner for the women. She won the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:31.95, the 100 free in 58.96 seconds and the 200 individual medley in 2:23.10.
  • Classmate Benjamin Lee (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) also had three wins on the day for the men. He won the freestyle sprints, taking the 50 in 22.72 seconds and the 100 in 50.13 seconds. Lee also claimed the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.09.
  • Senior Sam Dienstag (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) took the distance freestyle events in his second meet of the season, winning the 1000 in 9:34.56 and the 500 in 4:37.21.
  • Junior Tal Spector (Phoenix, Ariz./Herberger Young Scholars) claimed the 200 free for the men in 1:53.25 and the 200 butterfly in 2:07.38.
  • Junior Anastasia Bekou (Limassol, Cyprus/Laniteio Lyceum) took the backstroke wins for the women, winning the 100 in 1:02.44 and the 200 in 2:14.96, while first-year Riley Pasicaran (Kennewick, Wash./Hanford) did the same for the men, winning the 100 in 56.36 and the 200 in 2:03.98.
  • Sophomore Audrey Teo (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) won both breaststroke events for the women, swimming 1:15.33 in the 100 and 2:43.26 in the 200.
  • Senior Ryan Schulken (Waxhaw, N.C./Marvin Ridge) won the 100 breaststroke for the men with a time of 1:04.76.
  • Junior Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla./Miami Beach Senior) provided another sweep in the butterfly events, taking the 100 in 1:00.32 and the 200 in 2:18.26.
  • Sophomore Jenna Wild picked up one win for the women in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:32.23, while rookie Luke Abrahamson (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) was a single winner, taking the 100 butterfly in 56.93 seconds.
RELAYS
  • The Judges swept the relays as well. The women's team of Bekou, Kaplan, Gonzalez and Teo took the 200 medley in 1:55.07, while Wild, senior Maya Haubrich (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake), Teo and Gonzalez won the 200 free in 1:45.70.
  • On the men's side, Pasicaran, Schulken, Spector and Dienstag captured the 200 medley in 1:43.72, while it was Dienstag, first-year Avi Borgen (Teaneck, N.J./The Frisch School), Schulken and Lee in the 200 free with a mark of 1:32.23.

  • The Judges close out the 2023-24 season at the University Athletic Association championships at the University of Chicago from Feb. 14 to 17.
