Lenhart hat trick leads #18 Judges past Lesley, 5-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brandeis University junior forward Sydney Lenhart (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic) scored three consecutive second-half goals on the road tonight to lead the #18th-ranked Judges past Lesley University, 5-1, in their first game of the season as a Top 25 team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges outshot the Lynx, 8-1, in the first half, but the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after 45 minutes.
  • Brandeis rookie Ali Pennella (Stamford, Conn./Greenwich) scored the game's opening goal in the 17th minute off an corner kick taken by junior back Rachel Watler (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./West Ranch).
  • Lesley answered in the 37th minute when Abby Kalou converted a penalty kick for her fifth goal of the season.
  • Lenhart scored her second game-winning goal of the season in the 60th minute off an assist by rookie Tanvi Raju (Hyderabad, Indi/ Indus International School).
  • Less than two minutes later, another Watler corner found the back of the net, with Lenhart converting this time.
  • In the 73rd minute, Lenhart picked up her third goal of the game doing the work herself.
  • Brandeis junior Dominique Paglia (Westford, Mass./Westford Acad.) rounded out the scoring in the 78th minute.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brandeis ended up outshooting Lesley, 19-6 for the game, including 9-4 in shots on goal.
  • Judge first-year Amaya Logan (Jacksonville, Fla./Creekside) made three saves in the second half and earned her third win of the season. Junior Hannah Bassan (Aventura, Fla./NSU University School) did not have a save in the first half.
  • Lesley's Lauren Lacy had four saves for the hosts.
  • Lenhart's three goals give her five for the season – tying her career-high – and 14 for her career.
  • Seven of her 14 goals have been game-winners.
  • Brandeis's previous hat trick came last October 23rd, when Bailey Cullen MS '24 had three goals against Southern Maine.
UP NEXT
  • Brandeis starts University Athletic Association play on Saturday at 11 a.m. when the 18th-ranked Judges take on #1-ranked Carnegie Mellon.
  • The UAA had six of the top 18 teams in today's United Soccer Coaches Division III poll. It was the Judges' first appearance of the season in the top 25, while CMU moved to #1 after two weeks at #2.
