Women extend unbeaten streak to six with 1-1 draw at JWU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six in a row tonight as the Judges and Johnson and Wales University battled to a 1-1 draw today in Providence.
TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 3-0-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandeis opened the scoring in the 12th minute.
  • Rookie Tanvi Raju (Hyderabad, India/Indus International School) found the back of the net for the second time in three games. Senior midfielder Sydney Lenhart (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic) took a JWU turnover from near midfield and sent it to Raju at the top of the 18. Raju dribbled into the box and launched a left-footed rocket into the far netting.
  • The Wildcats evened the score in the 31sth minute, when Brynn Leahy's high ball from near midfield went just under the crossbar and beyond the arms of Brandeis junior keeper Hannah Bassan (Aventura, Fla./NSU University School).
  • Raju had two more shots in the first half as Brandeis outshot JWU, 5-2, in the stanza.
  • Bassam made her first two saves of the game in the fist 15 minutes of the second half against JWU's Sophia Warburton.
  • The Judges kept the pressure up in the second half, with their best chance coming in the 68th minute, when Johnson and Wales keeper Carly McCrumb denied Brandeis's Abby Kenkelen (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill)'s initial shot and Lenhart's follow-up rebound.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brandeis finished with an 11-5 shooting edge, including 7-4 on goal.
  • Bassan made three stops, while McCrumb had six.
  • Brandeis also had five corner kicks to the Wildcats' three.
