Women fall at #13 Babson, 79-44

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Facing their second nationally-ranked opponent in as many games, the Brandeis women's basketball team dropped a 79-44 decision to local rivals Babson, ranked #13 in Division III by D3hoops.com, on the road tonight in Staake Gymnasium.

  • Brandeis: 1-4.
  • Babson: 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges struggled in the first half, as they trailed 21-8 after one period and 36-15 at halftime.
  • Brandeis made just four of their 28 shots in the first half (14.3%), shooting the same percentage from 3-point range (2-14). Meanwhile, the Beavers hit 14-of-40 (35%) overall and 4-of-14 from long range (28.6%).
  • Brandeis had their best period in the third, when they scored 17 points, although Babson was able to extend its lead by three points to 56-32 before cruising to the 79-44 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brandeis had two players, sophomore reserve Brooke Reed (Chantilly, Va./Westfield) and Abby Kennedy (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) finished with eight points to lead the squad, while also pulling down six rebounds.
  • Classmate Katherine Vaughan (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) had a team-high seven rebounds, five coming on the offensive glass. She also had three blocked shots to lead all players.
  • Kennedy had two assists to lead the Judges.
  • Babson got a career-high 28 points from Kelly Walsh, who hit 11-of-19 overall, 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 3-of-4 from the line. Walsh stuffed the stat sheet with five rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and three steals.
  • Katelyn Mollica added 13 points and a game-high five assists, while Abby Miller had 11 points. Chloe Perrault led all players with 10 rebounds.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges face Rogers Williams at home next Monday night at 6 p.m. Babson returns to action on Sunday when it hosts No. 5/6 Rhode Island College at 1 p.m. in a rematch of an NCAA Tournament quarterfinal game from last season.
