Osselmann-Chai nets equalizer but MIT prevails, 2-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brandeis University sophomore Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) scored his first goal of the season, but the host MIT Engineers found a game-winner in the 63rd minute to take a 2-1 non-conference victory over the Judges.
TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 2-5-3.
  • MIT: 5-4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Engineers opened the scoring early in the eighth minute. John Flynn delivered a nice pass to Aidan Hallinan, who buried it for his third goal of the season.
  • Brandeis equalized in the 52nd minute. Sophomore midfielder Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) delivered a free kick from distance that eluded MIT's Hernando Ardila. The goal was Osselmann-Chai's first of the season and the third of his career.
  • The Engineers scored the game-winner just under 11 minutes later. MIT drew a penalty in the box, earning a PK from the spot. Although junior Quintin Wrabley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) made his initial save on MIT's Hendrik Mayer, the rebound went right back to Mayer for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
  • The Judges ability to find an equalizer was hampered in the 80th minute, when a Brandeis player was assessed a pair of yellow cards during the same stoppage to put them a man down. Osselmann-Chai and junior back Andres Gonzales (Doral, Fla./Divine Savior Acad.) each put a shot on goal in the last 10, but the Judges couldn't pull even again.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Shots were close in favor of MIT, 13-12, including 8-7 in shots on goal.
  • Wrabley finished with six saves in the losing effort, while Ardila also made six stops.
  • Fouls were even at 10-all, but Brandeis was assessed with four yellows and a red card, compared to two yellows for the Engineers.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges head to St. Louis to take on Washington University in a University Athletic Association contest on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (1:30 Central)
