Men's soccer celebrates Senior Day

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Brandeis University men's soccer team played visiting Case Western Reserve University. The Spartans scored two goals in the second half and the Judges only one for the whole game, leading the Spartans to take a 2-1  in the University Athletic Association game win on Gordon Field today.

TEAM RECORDS

  • Brandeis: 3-8-5, 1-3-2 UAA.

  • Case Western Reserve: 8-3-3, 2-2-2 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams had great defense in the first half of the game, not allowing the opponent any opportunities to score.

  • The Spartans Brandon Kim broke through the Judges defenses, scoring the first goal of the game in the 51st minute. He shot into the bottom third off of a cross from Matt Vatne. This was his fourth goal of the season.

  • Later, in the 73rd minute Case Western scored another goal by Josh Cook for his second goal of the season. He shot it after a save from Brandeis Goalie junior Quintin Wrabley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley).

  • Brandeis kept fighting, and responded two minutes later, in the 75th minute, senior Roee Maor (Demarest, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) attempted to shoot a goal, but missed. He then followed the ball, and after being tapped away by the Spartan goalie Bradley Winter, Maor was able to get another attempt and shot the ball into the bottom right hand corner, putting the Judges on the scoreboard.

  • In the last minute of the game, Brandeis had a chance to equalize the score from a free kick. Junior Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) kicked the ball into the box, where the Spartans defense were able to clear it before the Judges could score.
