NEWARK, N.J. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team got a career-high 14 saves from junior
Quintin Wrabley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and goals from three different players as the Judges battled host NYU to a 3-3 draw in the final game of the season for both University Athletic Association squads.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis: 3-8-6, 1-3-3 UAA.
- NYU: 5-6-5, 3-2-2 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Judges' highest scoring game of the season was a see-saw affair.
- NYU struck for the only goal of the first half, with Arkan Tahsildaroglu scoring on a free kick in the ninth minute.
- Wrabley made five of his 14 saves in the first half to keep it a one-goal game.
- Brandeis knotted things up just 30 seconds into the second half when junior Gabriel Haithcock (Macon, Ga./IMG Academy) crossed a beautiful ball from the right flank onto the head of senior Sancho Maroto Tobias (Acton, Mass./Lexintgon). Maroto Tobias deposited it in the back of the net for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
- The Judges took the lead in the 54th minute, when Maroto Tobias played a ball into the box for classmate Roee Maor (Demarest, N.J./Northern Valley Regional). Maor stung a ball inside the left post for his fifth of the campaign, tying Maroto Tobias and giving the visitors a 2-1 lead.
- On their senior day, NYU fought back, scoring goals in the 79th minute off the foot of Max McKersie following a failed clearance, and in the 83rd when Tahsildaroglu netted his second of the game.
- Just 83 seconds after falling behind, 3-2, the Judges got an equalizer in the 84th minute. Sophomore Elan Romo (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) sent a ball from the top right of the box to the left side. Classmate Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) took one touch and blasted the ball off the crossbar and over the line for his third goal of the season.
- The Judges nearly went back on top with 2:15 left on the clock, but NYU goalkeeper Wesley Bigbee denied Brandeis rookie Maddox Yu (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) in a one-on-the-keeper situation.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- NYU owned a 31-14 advantage in shots, including 17-8 in shots on goal, but Wrabley's 14-save performance helped the visitors earn the draw.
- Wrabley's previous career-high came on Oct. 10 when he had nine saves against Babson.
- It was the most saves in a game since last year when Aiden Guthro '23 had 14 stops against Wesleyan.
- NYU also had 10-3 advantage in corner kicks, while Brandeis was called for 13 fouls and three yellow cards to nine and two for the Violets.
- Brandeis sets a new program record with six draws on the season.
