Women's soccer celebrates Senior Day

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Brandeis University women's soccer team played visiting Case Western Reserve University. Although even in the first half, the Spartans broke through and had two goals in the last 20 minutes of the game to take a 2-0 win in the University Athletic Association game on Gordon Field today.

? Case Western Reserve: 11-1-3, 3-1-2 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED
? Both teams came out strong in the first half. There were not many opportunities for either team to score.
? The Spartans were on the front foot for most of the first half outshooting Brandeis, 6-5, but Brandeis junior Hannah Bassan (Aventura, Fla./NSU University School) made 3 saves with 2 of them in the 18th minute to keep the game scoreless.
? The Judges fought back with a shot on goal for first-year Tanvi Raju (Hyderabad, India/Indus International School) with 15 minutes left on the clock in the first half but the Spartans' Goalie Maggie Storti made the save.
? In the second half, Brandeis University tried to even things out until Case Western Reserve University broke the ice in the 73rd minute. The visitors' Mackenzie Mueller shot the ball into the upper right hand corner of the net, with the assist by Sydney Schenk from inside the box. Mueller was able to kick the ball up before Bassan could get to it.
? It was Mueller's 8th goal of the season and her 3rd UAA goal.
? Less than 3 minutes later, Andrea Silva scored the second goal evading Brandeis defense and then shooting the ball in the bottom right corner, doubling the Spartans score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
? The Spartans finished the game with a 15 - 7 shooting edge.
? Case Western finished with a lead 6-3 in corner kicks.
? Bassan finished with seven saves in the losing effort, while Storti had two for the Spartans' clean sheet.

COMING UP
? The Judges will face New York University, ranked 19th in Division III next Saturday afternoon for their final game of the season.
