Bassan makes career-high 11 saves in 1-0 loss at #12 Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Despite a career performance from sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Bassan (Aventura, Fla./NSU University School), who made 11 saves, the Brandeis University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 University Athletic Association decision today, falling on the road at #12-ranked Rochester.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams were fairly even in the first half, with Rochester owning a 7-3 shooting edge, including four on goal to two for Brandeis.
  • UR turned up the pressure in the second half, when they outshot the Judges, 13-5.
  • Bassan stopped the first seven shots on net that she faced, but the Yellowjackets finally broke through in the 75th minute.
  • Gabi Chioccola found Claire Grover with a cross. Grover sent it across the net into the left side to tally her 13th goal of the season.
  • Brandeis senior Yasla Ngoma (North Plainfield, N.J./Oak Knoll) put a shot on Rochester's Grace Kuropatkin in the 85th minute in an attempt to equalize, but the shot was stopped to preserve the shutout.

  • Rochester finished with a 20-8 advantage in overall shots, 12-4 in shots on goal.
  • Bassan's 11 saves surpassed her previous career-high of eight, set twice during her rookie season.
  • Kuropatkin made four stops for the shutout.
  • Four of Brandeis's five UAA losses have been by 1-0 scores this season.
  • In those four one-goal decisions, the opponent scored later than the 70th minute in four of them.
