Judges drop back end of UAA road trip, 1-0, at Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A second-half goal was the difference today as the Brandeis men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 University Athletic Association contest at the University of Rochester.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 3-7-5, 1-2-2 UAA.
  • Rochester: 7-2-5, 1-2-2 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team was able to get much traction in the first half. Rochester outshot Brandeis, 8-3, but shots on goal were just 3-2 in favor of the hosts.
  • UR's Santino Lupica-Tonda denied Brandeis's Roee Maor (Demarest, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) in the 10th minute and Nico Beninda (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) in the 30th.
  • Rochester's best chances came in the 35th through 37th minutes, when the Judges cleared Andrew Moglianesi's shot off the line, while Alessio Cristanetti-Walker sent the rebound wide. Cristanetti-Walker was denied by Brandeis junior Quintin Wrabley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and had a shot blocked in the series as well.
  • Brandeis came out firing in the second half, as Lupica-Tonda denied Judge first-year Maddox Yu (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) on back-to-back attempts in the 45th and 46th minutes.
  • Wrabley stopped the first shot he saw after the break, but in the 58th minute, the 'Jackets' Ashton Prescott got his foot on a deflected cross, and put it into the far left corner. It was his fifth goal of the season.
  • Brandeis got off a couple of shots immediately after the kick-off, but couldn't put them on net.
  • Wrabley made three saves shortly after the hour mark, including two on UR's EliJose Araujo.
  • Lupica-Tondo made two more stops the rest of the way, denying Sancho Maroto Tobias (Acton, Mass./Lexington) and Henning Dierks (Boston, Mass./Dexter Southfield School) in the 73rd and 82nd minutes.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Rochester finished with a 17-14 edge in shots after Brandeis's 11-9 advantage in the second half. The Yellowjackets had a 10-6 margin in shots on goal.
  • Wrabley finished one save shy of his career-best with eight, while the Judges also cleared one off the line. Lupica-Tonda made six saves for the clean sheet.
  • UR had 11 corner kicks to four for the Judges, while Brandeis was whistled for seven fouls to three on the hosts.
  • This was only the second time the Judges were shut out in their last eight games, with the only other coming in a 0-0 draw with #17 Chicago.
