Women fall at Emory, 1-0

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team suffered their third 1-0 defeat in four University Athletic Association contests tonight as the Judges fell to host Emory on a 72nd minute goal in Atlanta.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 6-5-3, 0-4 UAA.
  • Emory: 7-3-3, 1-2-1 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles outshot Brandeis, 8-5, but the Judges were even with three shots on goal, all from first-year forward Tanvi Raju (Hyderabad, India/Indus International School). Emory's Sophia Garcia made saves on all three.
  • Brandeis first-year keeper Amaya Logan (Jacksonville, Fla./Creekside) also had three stops in the first 45 minutes.
  • Emory had the first good attempt of the second half, as Mia Han hit the crossbar in the 50th minute.
  • The Judges test Garcia in the 65th and 68th minutes on shots by senior Sydney Lenhart (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic) and rookie Lacey Mbugua (Brockton, Mass./Worcester Academy).
  • Emory finally broke the ice in the 72nd minute off a corner kick, a Kylie Hall took a feed from Grace Reyer to score her fourth goal of the season.
  • The Judges looked to equalize, but were forced to play with 10 players for the final 10 minutes, as Logan was shown a red card after making a dangerous challenge on a defender outside the box.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Emory finished with a 17-9 shooting advantage, but Brandeis had seven shots on goal to six for the hosts.
  • Logan made four saves and surrendered the only goal, while junior Hannah Bassan (Aventura, Fla./NSU University School) had one stop in the final 10 minutes.
  • Garcia earned the shutout with seven saves.
