WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team swept the visiting Babson College this evening, 9-0. With the win, the Judges improve to 7-4 on the season, while Babson drops to 3-6. Brandeis sits at the No. 30 in the country and No. 8 in the region according to the ITA Division III poll.
The Judges got off to a strong start going 3-0 in doubles action. In the first spot, Seniors Nick White (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and Simon Miller (Plantation, Fla./Plantation), ranked 5th in the New England, led the way defeating sophomores Mitchell Henry (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and Simeon Human (Trelex, Vaud, Switzerland/Int'l School of Geneva), 8-4. The Judges were victorious in the second and third seeds, with a pair of sophomores, Dave Yovanoff (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and Steven Milo (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset), and a team of seniors Ezra Bernstein (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors School) and Steven Nieman (Forest Hills, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo) going 8-4 over their Babson opponents.
In singles action, Miller topped Henry 6-1, 6-2 in the number one spot to lead the way. White also had an almost perfect match going 6-0, 6-1 over senior Austin Conti (Murray Hill, N.J./The Pingry School). In the third position, Milo came back after dropping the first set, to defeat Human 6-7, 7-6 (10-6). In the final spot, Nieman topped his opponent 6-3, 6-3 to finish the day.
The Judges are in action again on April 2, when they host Bates College at noon.
Babson hosts Emerson College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m..
