SANFORD, Fla.-- The Brandeis baseball team split on the second
day of the University Athletic Association championships. The
Judges defeated Washington University, 13-11, thanks to home runs
by rookie RF Chris Ferro (Walpole, Mass./Walpole)
and senior DH Drake Livada (Cape Elizabeth,
Maine/Cape Elizabeth) and 3.1 fine innings of shutout relief
pitching by rookie Andrew Weissenberg (Demarest,
N.J./Northern Valley Regional).
In their second game of the day, Brandeis fell to Case Western
Reserve, 12-5, despite two more round-trippers despite a 3-for-5
performance from rookie centerfielder Nick Cortese
(Guaynabo, P.R./Baldwin School of Puerto Rico) out of the lead-off
spot.
Three different players went 4-9 on the day, with Ferro driving
in five, and junior 3B Tony Deshler
(Pepperell, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) crossing the plate five times
with a double and a triple.
