Quick strike Judges battle to 2-2 draw with Regis

WESTON, Mass. – The 18th-ranked Brandeis University men's soccer team battled back from an early deficit to take the lead, but settled for a 2–2 draw against Regis (Mass.) on Saturday afternoon at Regis Stadium.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 1-1-1
  • Regis, 0-0-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandeis controlled much of the early action, putting six shots toward the Regis goal in the opening 20 minutes and earning three corner kicks.
  • Regis struck first in the 34th minute when Jonas Tu finished a pass from Justin Brown to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.
  • The Judges continued to pressure after halftime, with senior Keller Chamovitz (Sewickly, Pa./ Quaker Valley) creating several chances before Brandeis finally broke through in the 73rd minute. Senior Kenshin Murakawa (Osaka, Japan/Lexington (Mass.)) launched a long-range effort over the Regis goalkeeper Wylie Gardiner, with an assist on a throw-in from senior Maddox Yu (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield), to level the match at 1-1 at the 72:14 mark.
  • Just 45 seconds later, Brandeis took their first lead of the game. Chamovitz scored at 72:57, sneaking behind the Regis defense off a long ball from the back by junior Dylan Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica/Suffield Academy), putting the Judges ahead, 2-1.
  • Regis answered quickly, however, as Reynaldo Bautista headed home a corner kick from Haroun Mafhoum in the 79th minute to make it 2-2.
  • The Judges continued to push for the deciding goal. First-year Danny Holzer (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) hit the post in the 86th minute, while junior Kaden Collins (Farmington, Conn./Loomis Chaffee School) and Chamovitz also put dangerous attempts on goal, but Gardiner made the necessary saves to preserve the draw.

  • Yu contributed an assist, and Marzouca recorded an assist on Chamovitz's go-ahead goal.
