WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team got a PK in the later stages of the first half today as the Judges defeated visiting Johnson and Wales University, 1-0, in their home opener on Gordon Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Brandeis controlled play in the first half, outshooting Johnson and Wales, 7-1.
• The Judges were rewarded for their efforts in the 38^th minute.
• With a crowded 18-yard box, first-year Ella Kauffman (E. Greenwich, R.I. / E. Greenwich) drew a foul, earning a penalty kick.
• Sophomore Grace Carman (Chicago, Ill. / Lane Tech) stepped up to the ensuing PK and drilled it home for her second career goal.
• JWU stepped up their offense in the second half, evening the shots at 5-all.
• The Wildcats put three of their shots on goal after the break, but senior Amaya Logan (Jacksonville, Fla. / Creekside) made all three of her saves to earn the win and the shutout.
• It was the fifth shutout of her career.
• Brandeis ended the game with a 12-6 shooting edge and just four fouls compared to 14 for the Wildcats.
• Corner kicks were even at 3-all.
• Wildcat keeper Ava Vaughan had five saves in the losing effort.
