#37 women's tennis drops UAA opener to #4 Chicago

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team dropped its opening round match at the 2026 University Athletic Association tournament as the seventh-seeded and #37-ranked Judges met second-seeded and #4-ranked University of Chicago and fell, 4-0.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 10-8, ranked #37 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
  • Chicago: 13-4, ranked #4 in DIII by the ITA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges dropped matches at #2 and #3 doubles, 6-3 and 6-2. Senior Rebecca Suarez (New York, N.Y./International Virtual Learning Academy) and junior Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines/Laurel Springs School) led their opponents, 4-3, when the doubles point was suspended.
  • The Maroons dispatched the Judges in singles, with the bottom of their order losing just one game in the two completed matches. Chicago clinched things with a 6-0, 6-3, win at #1.
  • First-year Avani Chitale (Ahmedabad, India/Cosmos Castle International School) won her first set, 7-5, but trailed 3-0 in the second when the match ended. Senior Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China/Shanghai International Division) took her opponent to a tiebreaker in the first before falling, 7-6 (7-2).
UP NEXT
  • The Judges will meet NYU in the consolation semifinals tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. The teams had previously met on April 18, with the Violets winning, 5-2.
