HOW IT HAPPENED

Brandeis asserted control early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. The #1 pairing of first-year Milana Sofizade (Sarasota, Fla. / IMG Academy) and junior Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines / Laurel Springs School) set the pace with a 6-1 victory. Junior Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India / Aavishkar School) and first-year Avani Chitale (Ahmedabad, India / Cosmos Castle International School) mirrored that score at the #2 spot with a 6-1 win of their own. The Judges completed the doubles sweep at #3, where senior Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International Division) and junior Galia Harmelin (Seattle, Wash. / Interlake) outlasted their opponents 7-5.

The momentum carried over into singles play as Brandeis won all six flights in dominant fashion.
Reyes led the way at #1 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, while Chitale (#3) and junior Charly Saltz (Los Angeles, Calif. / Learning Post Academy) (#5) were nearly perfect, recording 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 wins respectively. Sofizade added a 6-1, 6-4 win at the #4 position, and Harmelin closed out her match at #6 with a 6-2, 6-3 score.

The most competitive match of the day came at #2 singles, where
Zhang showcased her resilience. After dropping the first set 6-3, Zhang rallied to take the second 6-4 before prevailing in a third-set super-tiebreaker, 10-4, to compete the sweep for the Judges.
