BRONX, New York – Brandeis University softball 3B Jordan Wallace (Howell, N.J./Choate Rosemary Hall) drove in nine runs across both ends of a doubleheader tonight as the Judges took a pair of University Athletic Association games from rivals NYU, 9-5 in the opener and 8-2 in the nightcap at Fordham University's Bahosy Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1 (Brandeis 9, NYU 5)

• Brandeis looked to have the upper hand early, outhitting NYU, 5-1, over the first three innings, but the Violets struck first when Siena Kiefer singled, stole second and scored on a two-out single by Emma Sung.
• The Judges stranded two more runners in the fourth before finally breaking through in the fifth. Wallace gave Brandeis the lead with a two-run single up the middle, and scored three batters later on a hit by sophomore catcher Dylan Yamamura (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park).
• Wallace added a two-run double in the sixth inning, scoring on a Bells Burdenski (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) single to make it 6-0.
• NYU looked to get back in the game in the bottom of the sixth when Naya Schubel drilled a three-run home run to left center that cut their deficit to 6-4. Brandeis first-year Madeline Jennings (New York, N.Y./Beacon) gave up a walk to the next hitter.
• Sophomore Jamie Staub (Lawrenceville, N.J./Hun School) came on in relief, getting the final out of the inning. The Judges gave her some breathing room with the third-straight three-run inning, including Wallace's fifth RBI of the game. NYU scored one in the bottom of the seventh, but Staub retired the side to earn a save.
• Jennings evened her record at 3-3 on the season with a season-best 5.2 innings of work. She allowed eight hits and four runs – only one of which was earned. She struck out a career-high seven and walked just one.
• In addition to Wallace (3-5, 5 RBI, 2 R, 2B), Brandeis also got a big game at the plate from senior Erin Hunt (Wake Forest, N.C./Franklin Acad.) (4-5, RBI, 2 R, 2B).

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2 (Brandeis 8, NYU 2)

• For the second game in a row, the Violets took an early lead. Brandeis turned a double play in each of the first two innings, but their lone defensive miscue in the third on a sacrifice bunt allowed the hosts to get on the board.
• In the fourth, two lead-off walks came on to score on a Wallace single through the right side with one out to give Brandeis a 2-1 lead.
• NYU's Katie Antosiewicz doubled home the tying run in the bottom of the frame, but Brandeis senior Ragini Kannan (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) struck out the last two batters of the inning.
• The Judges took the lead for good in the top of the fifth on a two-out rally, as Hunt singled, stole second and scored on a Taryn Rainey (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) single up the middle.
• The Judges blew things open in the sixth with four doubles, including Wallace's third RBI of the game and eighth of the day. She added a second run-producing two-bagger in the seventh to make for the final 8-2 score.
• Kannan earned the win in the circle, retiring 11 of the last 13 Violets to improve to 5-2 on the season. She allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) with four strikeouts and two walks.
• Kannan moved into a tie for eighth on the career wins list with her 32^nd, seventh on the complete-game list with her 39^th and became the fourth Judge in school history with 300 career strikeouts, reaching 305.
• Offensively, Wallace went 3-4 with four RBI, one run and two doubles. Junior Brooke Boehmer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon was 2-4 with a double and three runs scored.
