Women blank Lesley, 2-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team scored goals in the early and late stages of the first half tonight as the Judges defeated Lesley University, 2-0, in non-conference action on Gordon Field.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 6-3-1.
  • Lesley, 5-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges scored on their first opportunity just 3:35 into the contest. First-year Valerie Bunde (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) was pulled down inside the penalty area, giving the hosts a PK.
  • Senior Zareena Mann (San Ramon, Calif./California) buried her attempt in the lower left corner for her first goal of the season and the fifth of her career.
  • The Judges doubled the lead 2:55 before the intermission in the 43rd minute. After a Lesley turnover in the defensive end, first-year Madelyn Aizenberg (Sacramento, Calif./Rio Americano) slotted a ball to classmate Olivia Flores (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody). Flores drove a shot from 20 yards out under the crossbar to score her first collegiate goal.
  • That was more than enough offense for Brandeis, who outshot Lesley,16-3, for the game, including 5-0 in shots on goal.
  • Brandeis also had an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks, and the game was relatively cleanly played, with just three fouls whistled on each side.
  • Brandeis senior Amaya Logan (Jacksonville, Fla./Creekside) was untested in goal to record her fourth shutout of the season. Lesley's Lloy Bartolotti made three saves in the losing effort.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges head to Atlanta on Saturday for a University Athletic Association contest at #21 Emory. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
