Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Adam Levin '94

Men's soccer overcomes weather, Regis, for 3-0 win

WALTHAM, Mass. – In the conclusion of a suspended game from Saturday afternoon, the Brandeis University men's soccer team scored three goals to defeat their local foes from Regis College in the first-ever meeting between the two sides.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 3-0.
  • Regis, 0-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandeis and Regis were scoreless through the first 37 minutes of play yesterday when the game was suspended due to heavy rains and lightning.  The teams played through rain for the resumption of the contest, but nothing as severe as the previous day.
  • The Judges found the only goal they would need just six minutes after play resumed. Junior back Kenshin Murakawa (Osaka, Japan / Lexington (Mass.) sent a rocket towards the net from nearly 30 yards out and found the upper 90.
  • It was Murakawa's first collegiate goal and proved to be the game-winner, just 1:18 before a brief halftime break.
  • Brandeis scored two insurance goals in the last 10 minutes to put the victory away.
  • In the 82nd minute, senior Slater Loffredo (North Hampton, N.H. / Northwood School) pounced on a poor clearing attempt by the Pride following a corner kick, burying inside the near right post for his first goal of the season and the second of his career.
  • In the 89th minute, junior Aidan Chuang (New York, N.Y. / Milton Acad.) dribbled from midfield into the 18-yard box and found classmate Maddox Yu (Ridgefield, Conn. / Ridgefield), who went inside the near left post for his first of the campaign and the fifth of his career.
  • Regis's best attempts came in Saturday's action, when Agu Silva-Olivera saw a ball cleared off the line in the 20th minute and then was denied by senior goalkeeper Tyler Correnti (W. Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) just over a minute later.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brandeis outshot Regis, 18-6 for the game, including 9-2 in the second half. The Judges put seven shots on goal to two for the Pride.
  • Correnti earned his second clean sheet of the season and third win overall with one save.
  • Regis's Chris Alcon had four stops for the visitors.
