Women's tennis downs Smith, 7-0, for fifth-straight win

WINCHESTER, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team won its fifth-straight match today, defeating Smith College, 7-0, at the Winchester Tennis Club. The Judges have won all five matches in their streak by 7-0 scores.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 5-6.
  • Smith: 4-8.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges clinched the doubles point with wins at #1, 6-1, and #3, 6-2.
  • The Pioneers' only victory of the day came in a tiebreaker at #2 doubles, 7-6 (7-5).
  • Brandeis did not drop a set in singles play, with the bottom of the lineup having the best success, with no player among the bottom three losing more than one game.
  • Senior Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece/Anatolia College) opened up the scoring at #4, 6-0, 6-1.
  • First-year Charly Saltz (Natick, Mass./Learning Post Acad.) earned a 6-1, 6-0, win at #5, and sophomore Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines/Laurel Springs School) concluded a terrific weekend with a 6-0, 6-1, win that clinched the team victory.
  • Sophomore Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India/Aavishkar School) was a 6-2, 6-3, winner at #3, while senior Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) took #2, 6-2, 6-4.
  • Junior Rebecca Suarez (New York, N.Y./International Virtual Learning Academy) had the biggest battle on her hands before completing the sweep, 7-5, 6-3.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges will try to reach the .500 mark for the first time this season when they meet Endicott College on April 11 at 3 p.m.
