ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Brandeis men's tennis grad student
Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) bolstered his case for another trip to the NCAA Division III singles tournament, but the #33-ranked and seventh-seeded Judges dropped their quarterfinal match in the 2025 University Athletic Association tournament to #6-ranked and #2-seeded Case Western Reserve Spartans, 4-1, in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis, 8-7, ranked #33 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
- Case Western Reserve, 23-5, ranked #6 in Division III.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans rolled to the doubles point, winning at #2 and #3, both by 6-1 scores.
- In singles action, they picked up another quick two points at the bottom of the lineup, 6-1, 6-1, at #6 and 6-2, 6-4, at #5 to take a 3-0 lead.
- Despite dropping a couple of first sets at #3 and #4, the Judges hung in and allowed Walters to finish his match at #1. Walters, ranked #31 nationally in the most recent ITA singles ratings, met 17th-ranked Ajay Mahenthiran, and pulled the upset, 6-4, 6-4.
- First-year Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel/Ironi Hei Modiin) was one game away from earning a point at #2 singles, owning a 6-2, 5-4 lead with a break in hand against 37th-ranked George Kosseifi , when CWRU ended the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win at #4.
