ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Brandeis University women's tennis senior class had a hand in four of the team's five wins today as the seventh-seeded and 33
rd-ranked Judges ensured they will outplay their seed with a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded and 29
th-ranked NYU in the consolation semifinals of the 2025 University Athletic Association tournament at Sanlando Park in Florida.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis, 10-7, ranked #33 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
- NYU, 7-7, ranked #29 in Division III.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Judges won a pair of doubles matches to take the opening point.
- Junior Rebecca Suarez (New York, N.Y./International Virtual Learning Academy) and senior Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) won, 6-4, at #1, and seniors Cecilia Denis (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) and Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece/Anatolia College) clinched the point with a 6-3 win at #3.
- In singles action, sophomore Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India/Aavishkar School) was up, 6-2, 1-0, at #3 when her opponent retired with an injury. '
- Parwani earned her second point of the day with a 6-1, 6-3, win at #2, and Sia clinched things with a 6-1, 6-2, win at #5.
- The other three matches appeared headed to third sets when the match was called.
UP NEXT
- The Judges will play for fifth place tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. against Case Western Reserve, ranked #17 nationally and seeded fifth in the tournament.
