ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Brandeis University softball team dropped its University Athletic Association series finale at #12-ranked Washington University, 8-0, in five innings.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis: 7-22-1, 3-9 UAA.
- WashU: 26-5, 11-1 UAA, ranked #12 in Division III by National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Judges couldn't get any offense going in this one, as they were held to one hit by WashU's Jordan Rossi, a bunt single by senior Anna Kolb (Alexandria, Va./Thomas A. Edison) in the fifth inning.
- The Bears got all the scoring they would need in the first inning when they loaded the bases on three walks and Kennedy Grippo hit a bases-clearing double to give the hosts a 3-0 lead.
- The hosts scored on a single from first and third and a successful double steal in the second to increase their lead to 5-0.
- A two-out RBI single in the third and a sacrifice fly that scored two runs in the fourth closed out the scoring for WashU.
- Rossi improved to 5-1 on the season, while Brandeis's Jamie Staub (Lawrenceville, N.J./Hun School) fell to 1-8.
