#33 men's tennis tops Trinity, 5-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – Despite playing shorthanded, the 33rd-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 victory over Trinity College today at the Cordish Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges opened strong, winning two of three doubles matches to take the first point. They won 6-2, at both #1 and #2, while the Bantams won a 6-3 decision at #3.
  • In singles action, the Judges were behind early, with one player already down and first-year Aidan Wang-Fan (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School) unable to play after winning his #2 doubles contest, giving Trinity a point at #6 singles.
  • The Bantam added a second point with a 6-1, 6-0, win at #5 to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Brandeis grad student Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) got the Judges back on the right foot with a 6-2, 6-1, win at #1. First-year Benjamin Kotzen (Austin, Texas/Austin Tennis Academy College Prep) put the home team back on top, 6-3, 6-2.
  • Despite going three sets, sophomore Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) picked up the clinching win at #3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, while first-year Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel/Ironi Hei Modiin) rounded out the victory with a 6-4, 7-5, win at #2.

  • The Judges will test themselves for the upcoming University Athletic Association tournament tomorrow at home against #3 Tufts University at 2 p.m.
