#36 men's tennis cruises past Coast Guard, 7-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team had little trouble winning for the seventh time in their last eight matches as the Judges didn't drop more than two games in any set in defeating the visiting United States Coast Guard Academy Bears, 7-0, outdoors at the Cordish Tennis Center.

  • Brandeis, 7-4, ranked #36 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
  • Coast Guard, 2-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges swept all three doubles matches by 6-1 scores to clinch the first point of the match.
  • In singles action, sophomore Pierce Garbett (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) won 12-straight games at #2 for a 6-0, 6-0 win.
  • Classmate Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Green Second School) and first-year Benjamin Kotzen (Austin, Texas/Austin Tennis Academy College Prep) were both 6-0, 6-1, winners at #3 and #5, respectively, to secure the third and fourth points, clinching Brandeis's victory.
  • First-year David Galvez (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) earned his first varsity victory at #6, 6-2, 6-1.
  • Classmate Aidan Wang-Fan (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School) won, 6-2, 6-2, at #4.
  • Grad student Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) completed the sweep at #1, 6-2, 6-0.
  • This was the Judges' fourth win in a row. It was their second 7-0 victory of the season.
