Men's tennis stampedes Nichols, 6-1, to return to .500

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team picked up its third-straight win today, defeating Nichols College, 6-1, and evening its record at .500 in the process.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges won the first two doubles matches to claim the first point of the day. The Judges won both #1 and #3 doubles by 6-2 scores. The Bison earned a 6-3 win at #2.
  • In singles action, Brandeis won the top three positions in straight sets to clinch the victory. Grad student Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) opened with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the top spot. First-year Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel/Ironi Hei Modiin) cruised at #2, 6-1, 6-0.
  • The victory was clinched at #3 singles, where sophomore Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) outlasted his opponent in a first-set tiebreaker to win, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Classmate Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Green Second School) made it 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-0, win at #5.
  • Nichols earned their lone point of the day with at 6-1, 6-3 win at #4, and Brandeis first-year Benjamin Kotzen (Austin, Texas/Austin Tennis Academy College Prep) went the distance at #6 for the 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 10-2 win.
  • This was the first-ever meeting between Brandeis and Nichols on the tennis court.
