#34 women's tennis blanks third-straight opponent in D2 FPU

WINCHESTER, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team didn't let being forced off-campus by the weather deter them from winning a third-straight match by a 7-0 score as the Judges knocked off Division II Franklin Pierce at the Winchester Tennis Club today.

  • Brandeis, 3-6, ranked #34 in Division III by ITA.
  • Franklin Pierce, 5-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges rolled to the doubles point, taking the three matches from the top down, 6-1, 6-2, and 6-2.
  • In singles action, junior Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, Chin/ Shanghai International Division) and senior Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) each won by 6-1, 6-0, scores at #3 and at #6 to give Brandeis a 3-0 edge.
  • The match was clinched by senior Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece/Anatolia College) at #4 with a 6-2, 6-0, victory.
  • Two closer matches were played at #1 and #2, with Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) winning 6-4, 6-2, at the top spot and sophomore Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India/Aavishkar School) taking a 6-1, 6-4, decision at #2.
  • Sophomore Mandy Reyes (Manila, The Philippines/Laurel Springs Acad.) won the longest match of the day at #5, 6-7 (10-12), 7-5, 10-3, to complete the sweep. Down 5-4 in the second, she won 22 of the next 25 points to finish out the win.

  • The Judges' match scheduled for tomorrow against Nichols was called due to inclement weather. They return to action on April 5, at 4 pm against Smith College.
