Men's tennis downs D2 Franklin Pierce, 6-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team won its second-straight match today, as the Judges defeated Division II Franklin Pierce College, 6-1, indoors at the Gosman Athletic Center today.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges rolled in double action, losing just four games across the three matches. They won 6-1 at #1 and #3 and 6-2 at #2 to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Despite a couple of close sets, Brandeis closed out the match with wins in the top three singles matches.
  • First-year Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel/Ironi Hei Modiin) rolled at #2, 6-4, 6-1.
  • Sophomore Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) survived a first-set tiebreaker to win, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, at #3.
  • Graduate student Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) clinched the victory at the top spot, 7-5, 6-3.
  • Sophomore Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Green Second School) started the second round of singles matches with an easy win at #5, 6-1, 6-3.
  • After the Ravens got their lone point at #4, first-year Benjamin Kotzen (Austin, Texas/Austin Tennis Academy College Prep) rounded out the win by coming from a set down to win a marathon third set super-tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-3, 17-15.

  • The Judges play host to Nichols College next Sunday afternoon, March 9, at 1 p.m.
