WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests to visiting Colby College today in their on-campus debut on Stein Diamond. The Judges fell in the opener, 5-4 in 10 innings, and 4-0 in the second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME ONE (COLBY 5, BRANDEIS 4, 10 innings)
- In the opener, the Mules outhit the Judges, 13-5, but it took three extra frames for the game to be decided.
- Brandeis opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by grad student Eddie Zanor (Branford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven).
- The Mules were held hitless through their first three at-bats, but a double and a two-run home run by DH Tony Silva put the visitors ahead, 2-1, in the fourth.
- Colby scored two runs on four hits in the top of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.
- The Judges responded in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs on two hits, a couple of walks and a hit batter. Sophomore SS Mano Boutsikakis (Astoria, N.Y. / Xavier) delivered a two-run double and classmate CF Connor Crowley (Guilford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven) singled home a run to knot the score at four.
- Both teams had chances to take the lead or win in the late innings. Brandeis loaded the bases with just one out in the sixth, while the Mules stranded two in scoring position in the seventh thanks to a strikeout and flyout induced by first-year Brady Lane (Hingham, Mass. / Boston College High School).
- The Judges got inning-ending double plays in the eighth and ninth innings, while the Judges left the winning run at third in the bottom of the ninth.
- The Mules knocked in the winning run in the top of the 10th on a single by Corey Aubuchon, while an insurance run was thrown out at the plate from center field by Crowley to end the frame.
- Colby's Adam Schwartz retired the side in order in the 10th, with Zanor driving one to the warning track in right field to end the game.
- Schwartz earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings, with one strikeout. He was the last of six Mule pitchers.
- Brandeis's Cooper Gavin (Beverly, Mass / Beverly) fell to 1-2 on the season, allowing four hits and a run in 1.2 innings of work. Judge grad student Chris Lowe (Chatham, N.J. / Oratory Prep) got a no-decision after allowing six hits and four earned runs in six innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
- Zanor had two hits to lead the Judges, while Boutsikakis's double was the team's lone extra-base hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME TWO (COLBY 4, BRANDEIS 0)
- The second game was a pitchers' duel, with Colby's Thomas Rioux allowing just one hit to the Judges through six innings to improve to 2-1. He walked two and struck out four. Greg Levin allowed one hit, but struck out the side in the seventh.
- Three Brandeis pitchers combined to allow just six hits and four runs, only one of which was earned. Zanor gave up three hits and the lone earned run in the first two innings of work, falling to 0-2 on the season. Sophomore Kyle Murray (West Roxbury, Mass. / Boston Latin) allowed two hits and three unearned runs in two innings, while first-year Teddy Peters (Holliston, Mass. / Holliston) went three innings and gave up just one hit, striking out two.
- Colby's first run came in the second inning, when they loaded the bases with one out on a pair of hits and a walk. Zanor traded an out for a run on a sacrifice fly by Henry Silva, and the Judges limited the damage to one run.
- The Mules added three more runs in the fourth, taking advantage of an error at short with one out. Silva delivered a second RBI, while a second error in the frame made it 3-0. A single by Clint Flippo made it 4-0 in favor of the visitors.
- Brandeis got singles from Boutsikakis in the third and junior pinch hitter Alex Kim (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Seton Hall Prep) in the seventh but they never advanced a runner past first base.
