ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Brandeis University men's basketball graduate student
Sam Adusei (Worcester, Mass./St George's School) scored all of the Judges' points in a 6-2 closing run, picking up three key rebounds in the process, as Brandeis defeated the University of Rochester, 69-66, in University Athletic Association play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After UR took an early 3-2 lead, Brandeis scored nine of the next 11 points to go ahead, 14-5. Six of the points in the run came from first-year Alex Zahkeim (Bergenfield, N.J./Perkiomen, Pa.).
- The Judges led for the rest of the first half. The nine-point advantage was their largest of the stanza, with Adusei hitting a lay-up just before the final buzzer to give Brandeis a 39-31 lead at the break.
- Junior Elias Rodl (Berlin, Germany/Schulund Leistungssportzentrum Berlin) led all scorers with 14 first-half points, while Zakheim had nine in his first collegiate start. UR's Logan Jagodzinski scored 12 to lead the hosts.
- Zakheim scored the first bucket of the second half to give the Judges their first 10-point lead at 41-31.
- Rochester responded, scoring seven points in less than 60 seconds, closing within three points at 41-38 on a fast-break lay-up by Ethan McEachern.
- Zakheim answered with a traditional three-point play on the next Brandeis possession, giving the Judges some breathing room.
- UR did not let their deficit grow beyond two possessions, and the hosts took their first lead since early in the game when Corvin Oprea found Theo Murray for a lay-up that gave them a 51-50 lead with just under 10 minutes left in the game.
- Brandeis answered on their next possession when first-year Ryan Weiss (Hewlett, N.Y./North Broward Prep) buried a wing 3-pointer with 9:39 remaining.
- The game featured three ties and four lead changes the rest of the way.
- Rochester's Jagodzinksi hit a pair of free throws with 2:20 left to give UR their final lead of the game, 64-63.
- On the next possession, Brandeis's Jake Bender (Scituate, R.I./St. George's School) worked his way into the paint and missed a turn-around jumper, but Adusei was their to tip in the rebound to give Brandeis a 65-64 lead with 1:51 left
- Rochester missed the front end of a one-and-one on their next possession, and Adusei grabbed the rebound and drew a foul.
- The Judges missed their attempt to build a two-possession lead with a 3-pointer on the next possession, but Adusei blocked a shot to keep the lead in Brandeis's hands with a minute to go.
- The Brandeis defense was able to keep UR at bay, and Adusei scored the last four points for the Judges from the line.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Judges put four players in double digits in scoring. Rodl led the team with 19 points, hitting 8-of-14 from the field, 3-of-5 from deep. He also grabbed four rebounds.
- Zakheim finished with 14 points, one shy of his career-best. He hit 6-of-9 from the field and 1-of-2 each from downtown and from the line.
- Senior Toby Harris (Durham, N.C./Durham Acad.) added 12 points, nine coming in the second half.
- Adusei just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds tie his career-high. Those totals included six points and three boards in the final two-minute stretch.
- Grad student Aedan Using (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, as the Judges won the battle of the boards, 43-32, including 15-11 on the offensive glass.
- Jagodzinski led all scorers with 24 points, hitting 8-of-16 from the field, 4-of-7 from deep and 4-of-5 from the line. He also led the Yellowjackets with seven rebounds and tied for team-high honors with McEachern with three assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Judges earn their second-straight win at Rochester, third in a row overall, and earned a season-sweep of the Yellowjackets for the first time since the 2009-10 season.
