#12 men's soccer unbeaten streak snapped at #11 WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The #12-ranked Brandeis University men's soccer team saw its unbeaten run come to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling 4–0 to #11 Washington University in St. Louis in a UAA matchup at Francis Olympic Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bears opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Quentin Gomez headed in a corner kick from Sebastian Valdes to give WashU a 1–0 lead.
  • WashU doubled its lead in the 41st minute as Ethan Wirtschafter found the back of the net off an assist from Yash Kshirsagar.
  • Just over a minute later, Wirtschafter struck again, capitalizing on a loose ball off the crossbar to make it 3–0 before halftime.
  • Wirtschafter completed his hat trick in the 68th minute with a low shot to the left corner, sealing the 4–0 victory for the Bears.
  • Brandeis senior Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) led the Judges' attack with three shots, all on goal.
  • Despite several chances, Brandeis was unable to break through against a strong WashU defense goalkeeper.
  • Junior goalkeeper Benny Shin (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) made his collegiate debut in goal, recording two saves in 14 minutes of action.

  • The loss marked the Judges' first defeat of the 2025 season, snapping their 12-game unbeaten streak dating back to last year (10-0-2).
  • WashU's Ethan Wirtschafter recorded his first collegiate hat trick.
  • Brandeis and Washington University have one of the longest-standing rivalries in the UAA, meeting annually since the conference's founding in 1987. With today's result, WashU leads the all-time series 20–14–3.
