Men close non-conference schedule with 84-65 win over Rivier

WALTHAM, Mass. – Four starters scored in double digits, including the first career double-double for junior Elias Rodl (Berlin, Germany/Schulund Leistungssportzentrum Berlin), as the Brandeis University men's basketball team wrapped up its non-conference schedule today with an 84-65 victory over Rivier University.

  • Rivier, 7-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges, who entered the game ranked second in Division III in overall field goal percentage and 3-point percentage, showed why in the first half, connecting on 56.4% overall (22-39) and 50% from beyond the arc (8-16) as they built a 54-32 lead.
  • The Raiders hit on just 36.7% overall (11-30) and 40% from downtown (4-10) in the opening stanza.
  • Brandeis opened the second half on an 11-3 run thanks to two 3-pointers by grad student Sam Adusei (Worcester, Mass./St. George's School) and another by Rodl that gave Brandeis its largest lead, 65-35, with 16:44 left in the game.
  • Brandeis took its feet of the pedal at that point, as Rivier outscored the Judges, 30-19, the rest of the way, but the visitors couldn't get any close than 18 points on a Matt Constant jumper with 7:40 to go that made it 73-55.
  • The Judges answered with eight of the next nine points and put the game away from there.

  • Graduate student Aedan Using (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) added six points and a game-high six assists, while also blocking three shots.
