Chuang nets first career goal in 3-1 loss to WNE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team dropped their 2024 season opener today on the road, falling to Western New England University, 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Bears owned a 6-3 advantage in shots in the first half, and they broke through in the 32nd minute on a penalty kick by Jayden Montagna.
  • Montagna picked up as assist on WNEU's second goal in the 71st minute as Matt Spruill found the back of the net.
  • Brandeis got that goal back just 2:11 later, as sophomore Aidan Chuang (New York, N.Y. Milton Acad.) scored his first collegiate goal. Junior Josh Andrews (Lexington, Mass./Lexington), a transfer from Holy Cross had the assist.
  • Brandeis pressed in the late going, but Western New England found a counter-attack goal from Aiden Casinghino in the 87th minute for an all-important insurance goal.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Golden Bears had a 17-10 shooting advantage and 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Brandeis senior Quintin Wrabley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) had four saves in the losing effort, while WNEU's Braylon Casinghino also had four for the win.
  • Brandeis had been 3-0-3 in their previous six meetings with Western New England.
