WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University swimming and diving senior
Sam Dienstag of
Wilmette, Illinois, has added College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Third Team honors to his trophy case.
The Judges also had five team members named CSC Academic All-District for swimming and diving. Sophomore
Sam Bundy of
Charlotte, North Carolina, was honored for the men, while junior
Chloe Gonzalez of
Miami Beach, Florida, senior
Maya Haubrich of
Grayslake, Illinois, and junior
Eva Parson of
Milford, Massachusetts, were recognized for the women.
Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot, voted on by CSC members. To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District and All-America honors, student-athletes must be sophomores who carry at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must compete in 90 percent of a team's contests, start 66 percent of them, or qualify for the NCAA Championships in their respective division.
Dienstag, a five-time All-American in the pool, finished as the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle and fifth in the 1,650 freestyle at this year's NCAA Division III Championships. In the classroom, he posted a 3.70 grade-point average as a business and economics double major. He has made the Dean's List in seven semesters so far and been named Academic All-University Athletic Association all three semesters in which he was eligible.
Bundy owns a 3.98 grade-point average as a double major in biology and anthropology. He is a three-time Dean's List student who serves as a Roosevelt Fellow Peer Advisor for the Brandeis undergraduate community and Admissions Fellow for the University, conducting campus tours and interviewing prospective students. For the Judges, he swims freestyle, butterfly and individual medley events.
Gonzalez swims shorter freestyle events and is part of the team's medley and freestyle relay teams. She is the school record holder in the 200 freestyle and as part of the 400 medley relay team. Gonzalez owns a 3.77 grade point average as a biology major. She works as an EMT for Brandeis's Emergency Medical Corps (BEMCo) and volunteers with SPECTRUM, working with kids with disabilities.
Haubrich has a 3.88 GPA as an environmental studies major. She swims the backstroke for the Judges and is a member of the school-record 800 freestyle relay team. Haubrich earned the JV Cunningham Award for Excellence in College Writing as a junior. She spent part of her junior year studying in Dubai as part of the Environmental Studies program.
Parson swims freestyle and backstroke events in the pool. She has a 3.78 GPA, majoring in Health: Science, Society, and Policy (HSSP). She serves as the vice president of Brandeis's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is also a member of the Admissions Fellows team. She is the coordinator of Brandeis Buddies, pairing Brandeis students with Waltham community members with mental disabilities. Parson has interned this semester at UMass Memorial Hospital, and she has been chosen as the HSSP Undergraduate Departmental Representative for next year.
Dienstag is a 2020 graduate of New Trier High School.
Bundy is a 2022 graduate of Ardrey Kell High School.
Gonzalez is a 2021 graduate of Miami Beach Senior High School.
Haubrich is a 2020 graduate of Grayslake High School.
Parson is a 2021 graduate of Milford High School.
