Judges eclipsed by CWRU, 12-0, in series finale

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Brandeis University baseball team dropped its University Athletic Association finale today against Case Western Reserve University, 12-0, in a game that ended in seven innings.

TEAM RECORD
  • Brandeis: 4-17, 0-4 UAA.
  • Case Western Reserve: 21-6, 7-1 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CWRU scored runs in five of its six at-bats, including three runs in both the second and third innings and four in the sixth to invoke the UAA's 10-run rule.
  • The Spartans outhit the Judges, 17-6.
  • Brandeis's six hits were paced by two from graduate student 3B Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif./Palos Verde), who went 2-3 with a double.
  • Graduate student RF Jake Freed (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson) also had a double for the Judges.
  • Eight of the nine Spartans had a hit in the game, including three 3-hit games. CWRU's James Powers went 2-5 with a double and three RBI, while 1B Dane Camphausen had a pair of doubles in three at-bats and scored two runs.
  • Each of the hosts' 5 through 8 hitters scored two runs in the contest.
  • Brandeis senior Sean Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif./Vistimar) took the loss on the hill. He went 5.1 innings and gave up 14 hits and eight earned runs. He struck out seven and walked two, falling to 1-5 on the season.
  • Tyler Stillson improved to 4-0 for CWRU. He went 5.2 innings, allowing six hits and striking out seven without issuing a walk.
