Cohen, softball complete series sweep of NYU, 9-1

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Brandeis University softball team completed a four-game sweep of host New York University in their final University Athletic Association game of the 2024 season as the Judges posted a 9-1 win at the College of Staten Island.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandeis senior Alex Cohen (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) was the star of the weekend and of this game. Cohen won three of the four games in the series and picked up a save in the fourth contest.
  • In today's game, she pitched a complete game five-hitter, allowing one earned run. She walked four and struck out two. After surrendering a run in the bottom of the first, Cohen allowed only two runners past second base. Cohen improved to 8-11 on the season.
  • Cohen also had a terrific game at the plate, going 3-5 with a run scored and four RBI, tying a career-high. Cohen delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the second inning and had RBI hits in the fifth and seventh innings. She totaled seven RBI in the four-game series.
  • Sophomore CF Bells Burdenski (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) went 2-4 with three RBI in the contest, driving home a run with singles in the second and third innings and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
  • Eight different Brandeis players scored runs in the contest, with junior DP Tristan Boyer (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) the only player to cross the plate twice.
  • First-year 1B Brooke Boehmer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) had the team's lone extra-base hit with a double.
  • NYU's Emily Stone took the loss, allowing five earned runs on three hits and four walks and two hit batters.
  • 1B Madi Hand had a double for the home team

  • Brandeis will close out its regular season on Tuesday afternoon with a single game at 4 p.m. at Endicott College.
