Baseball blanked by Emory in UAA series opener, 10-0

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Brandeis University baseball team dropped its University Athletic Association series opener at Emory University, 10-0, at the Eagles' Chappell Park.

  • Brandeis: 5-28, 0-13 UAA.
  • Emory: 21-14-1, 7-5-1 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles only outhit the Judges, 9-5, but they were able to take advantage of three walks, three hit batters and five Brandeis errors.
  • Because of those miscues in the field, five of the 10 Emory runs were unearned.
  • Emory was aggressive on the basepaths as well, stealing five bases in six attempts.
  • The Eagles scored runs in six of their seven at-bats, including three runs each in the first and third innings.
  • Junior outfielder Matthew Sicoli paced the Emory offense, going 3-3 with a walk and two runs scored and two stolen bases.
  • DH Jack Halloran and shortstop Aidan Conley each had two RBI for the hosts.
  • Brandeis's five hits were all singles, but the Judges were unable to advance a runner past first base.
  • Judge graduate student Marc Maestri (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) took the loss, falling to 2-6. He allowed five hits and nine runs (four earned) in 4.2 innings. Maestri had three walks and hit three batters with one strikeout.
  • Sophomore Vinny Terraciano (Woodland Hills, Calif./Viewpoint) allowed two hits and one unearned run in 1.1 innings.
  • Emory's JT Rattigan went the distance, allowing five hits and no walks with four strikeouts in seven innings. He moved to 7-1 on the season.
