BABSON PARK, Mass. – The 28
th-ranked Brandeis women's tennis saw its five-match winning streak halted today on the road by 20
th-ranked Babson College, 6-3.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis: 8-7, ranked #28 in Division III by Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
- Babson: 8-4, ranked #20 in Division III by ITA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Babson got off to a strong start, winning two of three doubles.
- The most anticipated match of the day came at #1 doubles, where the top two teams in the ITA's Northeast Region rankings faced off. Top-ranked Olivia Soffer and Matia Cristiani of Babson earned a convincing win over Brandeis's second-ranked Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) and Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, N.Y./International Virtual Learning Academy), 8-1.
- The Beavers added an 8-4 win at #2 before Brandeis got on the board at #3, where the tandem of juniors Cecilia Denis (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) and Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece/Anatolia College) earned an 8-6 victory.
- Babson won four of six singles matches to secure the victory, winning at least one set at love in all four.
- Both Brandeis points came from first-year players. Mandy Reyes (Barcelona, Spain/Laurel Springs School) won at #5, 6-4, 6-3. At #3, Lika Bolkvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/The European School) won the only three-set match of the day, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
