#32 men's tennis breaks into win column, 7-2, over Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. – The 32nd-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team won the first seven matches today as the Judges broke into the win column with a 7-2 win over Division II Franklin Pierce University in the Gosman Athletic Center today.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges got off to a fast start with a doubles sweep, taking the first three points in order. Senior Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) teamed with first-year Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) for the second time this season to win without dropping a game, 8-0, at #1.
  • Senior Aaron Bayse (Mission Viejo, Calif./Tesoro) and sophomore Alex Merson (Palisades Park, N.J./Tenafly) teamed up for an 8-3 win at #2.
  • The most competitive match came at #3, where first-year players Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Green Second School) and Harrison Huai (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) played together for the first time since the fall season to outlast their Franklin Pierce opponents, 8-7 (7-1).
  • In singles action, Dong opened the scoring with a 6-0, 6-4, win at #3, while Merson cliched the victory at #2, 6-1, 6-3.
  • Walters closed out the first round of matches with his second-straight come-from-behind victory, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
  • Garbett picked up Brandeis's last point at #4, 6-4, 6-2.
  • The Ravens won a pair of three-setters at #5 and #6 for their two points, as Bayse won a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-6), but dropped the next two, 1-6, 8-10, playing a super tiebreaker in the third. Huai dropped a 6-2, 3-6, 6-10, decision at #6.
