Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Brandeis University women's basketball team got off to a fine start at the University of Rochester today, as the two teams were tied at 20 after one quarter, but the host Yellowjackets pulled away from there, taking an 83-51 University Athletic Association victory in the Palestra.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis: 4-16, 0-9 UAA.
- Rochester: 10-10, 5-4 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brandeis had one of its best opening 20 minutes of the season, hitting 8-of-18 from the field, with three 3-pointers, while outrebounding UR, 11-6. The Yellowjackets were 9-for-13 from the floor to help offset the Brandeis trifectas.
- Judge junior Caitlin Gresko (Howell, N.J./Howell) had seven points in the first period, while UR's Hannah Lindemuth had eight points.
- Unfortunately, the Judges could not keep up their offensive prowess, as their shooting percentage went down in each period. They hit 36% in the second period, compared to 47% by Rochester as the hosts outscored them 21-12 and took a 41-32 lead into halftime.
- The Yellowjackets blew things open in the third, outscoring Brandeis, 25-9, and outshooting them 65% to 21%. They won the final period by a 17-10 score with a 50% to 19% shooting advantage.
- After Brandeis had the rebounding edge in the first quarter, UR owned a 37-25 lead the rest of the way to claim a 43-36 margin on the glass.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gresko finished with a team-high 12 points, but just five after the first quarter. She hit 5-of-11 overall, including 2-of-5 from beyond the arc.
- Sophomore Abby Kennedy (Half Moon Bay, Calif/Half Moon Bay) notched a career-high 10 points, eight coming in the first half.
- A trio of sophomores, Brooke Reed (Chantilly, Va./Westfield), Molly James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and Maya Williams (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) all tied for team-high honors with eight rebounds. It was a career-high for Williams.
- Junior Lulu Ohm (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) had three assists and three steals to top the Judges.
- Lindemuth finished with game-high honors of 20 points, one of four Rochester players in double figures.
- Abby Gress had 15 points and a team-best six rebounds. Tia Poulakidas added 13 points and Raquel Williams had 10.
- Nine different players recorded assists for the hosts, now with more than three, as they had 16 helpers on 35 baskets.
