CHICAGO, Ill. – Brandeis University men's basketball sophomore
Jake Bender (Hope, R.I./St. George's School) had a career-night tonight, scoring 27 points on seven 3-pointers as the Judges avenged an earlier loss to the University of Chicago with a 76-71 win on the road in the University Athletic Association.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game featured six ties and five lead changes, with each team making a run but neither able to pull away. The largest lead for either team in the contest was eight points when the Maroons led 32-24 late in the first half.
- Brandeis closed the first on a 12-4 run that closed them within 38-36 at halftime.
- The Judges were unable to get over the hump in the early of the second half, but an 11-2 run over a span of 2:09 helped catapult them back into the lead, 65-60 when senior guard Ryan Power (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) hit a trifecta that put Brandeis ahead for good with 5:30 left in the game.
- Bender hit a key 3-pointer down the stretch, including one at 3:24 that made it a 71-65 game. He also helped stymie the Chicago comeback in the last minute of the game when he successfully converted a traditional three-point play with under a minute to go.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bender was the story of the game for the Judges, tallying a career-high 27 that was also Brandeis's highest scoring performance of the season.
- Bender shot 9-of-15 overall, 7-of-12 from deep and 2-of-3 from the line.
- He had 13 points in the first half and 14 in the second. Bender also tied for team-high honors with three assists.
- Senior Sam Adusei (Worcester, Mass./St. George's School) added 14 points, eight coming after the break.
- Classmate Ryan Power (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) scored 11 points and led the Judges with seven rebounds and three steals.
- The Judges won the turnover battle handily, 13-5, and outscored Chicago, 16-5, off those miscues, helping to offset a slight 48% to 46% edge in shooting by UC.
- The Maroons had four players score in double digits with 19 points and a team-high four assists for Joe Berry.
- Bryce Hopkins had 12 points and Eamonn Kennah and Thomas Kurowski had 10 each, though Kurowski's 10 all came in the first half. He also led the Maroons with six rebounds.

- With the win tonight, the Judges improved to 4-2 on the road in the UAA this season.
