Fencers celebrate Senior Day at Brandeis Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University fencing teams honored the Class of 2025 at today's Brandeis Invitational. The Judges picked up three wins across their 12 matches, with two one-point defeats and two more by three points, including against national powers Penn State and St. John's.

TOP SQUAD PERFORMANCES
  • It was a balanced performance across the weapon squads today, with women's saber and men's and women's foil each picking up three squad wins. Women's epee and men's saber won twice and men's epee won once.
  • Among the top squad wins for the Judges was men's foil taking a 5-4 decision from Penn State and women's saber winning 5-4 over the Nittany Lions.
TOP INDIVIDUALS
  • The two best records of the meet came from women's saber, where senior Kayla Turnof (Westfield, N.J./Kent Place School) had a team-high 12 wins, going 3-0 against Lawrence and Drew and 2-1 vs. Penn State and St. John's; and junior Kat Xikes (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) had 11 victories, including 3-0 against Penn State and Drew and 2-1 against Lawrence.
  • On the men's side, where only a couple of Judges fenced more than three matches, junior Michael Yerohkin (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) led the way for the foil squad, earning eight wins, including 3-0 against Penn State and 2-0 against Drew.
  • For the men's saber squad, senior Joy Qiu (Guangzhou City, China/Roselle Catholic (N.J.) was outstanding in his final meet, going 7-2 with a 3-0 win over Drew and 2-1 wins over Lawrence and Drew. Sophomore Matthew Chaves (Durham, N.C./Durham Acad.) was 6-3 overall, with 2-1 marks against Penn State, Yale and St. John's.
  • Senior Bronwyn Rothman-Hall (San Francisco, Calif./Ruth Asawa School of the Arts) was also outstanding in her final home meet with eight wins, including a sweep of Lawrence and 2-1 records against Yale and Drew.
