CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Facing one of their toughest weekends of the season, the Brandeis women's fencing team dropped five matches against nationally-ranked opponents in the United States Fencing Coaches Association at today's Larry Miller Invitational at the University of North Carolina. The saber squad had the top performance on the day, going 2-3.

SABER SQUAD SUCCESS
- Against their two Division III opponents, the saber squad put together 5-4 wins.
- Against Johns Hopkins, both senior Kat Xikes (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and first-year Sophia Jeffords (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Vistamar School) posted a 2-1 record.
- Xikes followed it up with a 3-0 mark against NYU, while Jeffords and first-year Nandini Bains (New York, N.Y. / The Bronx High School of Science) each added one win.
- The women's foil squad had a 5-4 loss to NYU, with the Violets' 6-3 win in foil providing the overall difference in the 15-12 match.
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS
- Xikes was Brandeis's top performer on the day with nine wins, posting winning records against four of five opponents. In addition to her 3-0 mark against NYU, she was 2-1 against JHU, Notre Dame and Temple.
- Bains had the distinction of being the only fencer with a win against all five opponents, going 1-2 in every match.
- Senior Hannah Du (Winchester, Mass./ Winchester) went 2-1 against Notre Dame, NYU and Johns Hopkins to post a squad-high six wins for the foil squad.
- First-year Chloe Chang (Hillsdale, N.J. / Pascack Valley) had four wins to lead the epee squad.
